The XIV International Forum “Ecology” Expands Focus to Global Environmental Cooperation
The forum’s communications center emphasizes that a core goal is stronger international collaboration to address environmental protection challenges. Shared responsibility among nations is highlighted as the forum explores practical paths to safeguard ecosystems and climate stability amid today’s geopolitical climate.
Organizers note that, despite tensions on the world stage, Russia remains engaged in many international environmental agreements. This continuity signals commitment to global standards and cooperative action in biodiversity protection, pollution reduction, and sustainable resource management. The forum seeks to translate these commitments into concrete steps that partners worldwide can implement together.
Nikolay Valuev, Ecology, who serves as President of the Public Council of the Center for the Promotion of Non-Profit Autonomous Non-Profit Environmental Initiatives, underscored the need to keep ecology free from political polarization. He stressed that the planet belongs to all nations and that responsibility for environmental health and climate action must be a collective effort. The message was clear: openness to dialogue with capable partners is essential for meaningful progress.
The forum will feature a dedicated platform on “green diplomacy” within the strategic session titled “SDG 17.2.0: International Environmental Dialogue.” This segment aims to map out actionable avenues toward achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals under changing global conditions. The objective is to turn high-level commitments into practical cooperation, pilot projects, and scalable initiatives.
Participants will include representatives from foreign governments, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Duma, and the Federation Council. Leaders from business and nonprofit sectors are also invited. Delegations from embassies such as Algeria, Bangladesh, South Africa, Bolivia, and additional countries have confirmed their involvement, signaling broad international engagement.
The event begins on June 5, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day. A keynote address will be delivered via video link by the UNEP Regional Director for Europe, outlining regional environmental priorities and collaborative opportunities. In-person participation is expected from the head of UNEP’s office in Russia on June 6, reinforcing ongoing diplomacy and joint efforts to advance environmental protection on multiple fronts. The forum program continues to emphasize practical actions, knowledge sharing, and the cultivation of enduring cross-border partnerships (UNEP). [UNEP]
