The hours stretch endlessly over the twelve weeks as relatives of Juan Luis Cedrés Pérez wait near the Las Coloradas viewpoint each day. They watch a rough sea, keeping a hopeful eye on the location of the missing man, hoping for a breakthrough as soon as possible. The search has continued for three consecutive days, and the man, a 64-year-old well-known runner from La Isleta, disappeared last Friday after falling into the sea while fishing in the Los Alabarderos area on the western coast of the neighborhood. Rescue and recovery teams did not pause their efforts to locate him, operating by land, sea, and air, yet on Sunday their attempts remained fruitless and they planned a renewed effort first thing on Monday morning. The sudden discovery of his shirts in the area where he vanished has kept hope alive for Juan Luis to be found among his relatives, although there is a sober understanding that the chances of finding him alive are slim. The water depth in the searched zone is reported to reach 32 meters.

The third day of the search for the man who fell overboard around 13:45 on Friday began very early this Sunday for the family members gathered again in Las Coloradas to continue the ground search for Juan Luis. They were accompanied by a Sea Rescue helicopter, Helimer 204, and Guardamar Talía, as well as members of the Civil Guard’s Group of Experts for Underwater Activities GEAS. Although initial plans included diving, those plans were scrapped due to conditions at sea. With the sea unfriendly for divers, the operation shifted to ground work aided by drones and other monitoring assets.

During one sweep through different groups after 11:00, relatives spotted T-shirts floating in the water, one about 150 meters from the other. They could not immediately confirm whether the garments belonged to Juan Luis, but hours later, around 4 p.m., currents drove the items ashore, enabling confirmation that they did belong to the missing man. Upon this confirmation, the relatives promptly notified the rescue teams and provided GPS coordinates. The helicopter returned to the area after 17:00 and remained on site until sunset. It was reported that a rescue diver was knocked off the device during the operation, and the search continued without yielding results.

The search area near where the shirts appeared will be active again on Monday, with work expected to focus on the zone at a depth of up to 32 meters, according to information obtained by the family.

Juan Luis Cedrés Pérez disappeared after falling into the sea while fishing around noon on Friday. His brother Daniel found his belongings among the rocks and initially tried to locate him with the help of a runner passing through the area. Although Juan Luis was not a professional athlete, he was known for running various marathons and for training on the streets of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, illustrating a steady routine of endurance and outdoor activity that made the disappearance particularly troubling for those who knew him.
