The Prosecutor General’s Office for Anti-Corruption in Ukraine reports that Gennady Trukhanov, the mayor of Odessa, was detained as part of a probe into alleged embezzlement of municipal funds during the 2021 purchase related to the Krayan factory project. The case has attracted attention from several Ukrainian media outlets and authorities.
According to official statements, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine issued a preventive measure keeping Trukhanov in custody for two months, with an option to post bail set at 13.6 million hryvnias, roughly equivalent to 372 thousand US dollars. The court reportedly granted a detention precaution because the bail had not been paid within the required period.
On December 9, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau announced the indictment of three deputies associated with Trukhanov in connection with alleged corruption schemes. The individuals were not named in the public release. Earlier, on December 5, law enforcement officers conducted searches within the Odessa City Council and the mayor’s office, along with the legal and financial departments.
Additionally, searches were carried out at the Odessa administration building as part of the ongoing inquiry. An unnamed source cited by a local outlet noted that the searches targeted the mayoral office in connection with the 2021 procurement case.
