Caliche Group’s journey began in the 1960s when founder David Martínez shifted from taxi driving to owning a truck and entering the transportation sector.
The Caliche Group story: from a bold 1960s pivot to modern diversification
Expansion and diversification
Over time the group grew under the leadership of Martínez’s children, who pursued new opportunities to diversify services. Today Caliche Group operates as a holding company with ventures across a range of sectors including logistics, telecommunications, education, agriculture and artificial intelligence. The group has demonstrated a clear commitment to innovation and to meeting market needs by adding solar energy and sustainability solutions.
Martínez has outlined ambitious objectives for lowering the group’s carbon footprint, a critical issue in transportation. To date, emissions have been reduced by about 40 percent, with a target of 50 percent savings by 2027. This commitment aligns with Banco Sabadell’s sustainability program, a detail noted by Banco Sabadell and Prensa Ibérica Group as part of their coverage on green financing and ICO lines. Martínez underscores that reducing emissions is a shared responsibility; he notes that Europe is expected to begin imposing sanctions on companies that fail to meet sustainability rules, making emission reductions a business imperative.
Banco Sabadell: an important partner for business growth
The presentation also highlights Banco Sabadell as a strategic partner for Caliche and other regional companies in Murcia. Martínez values the bank’s proximity and agility in meeting financing and growth needs, especially during critical moments. Fernando Canós notes Sabadell’s strong presence in Murcia, with 70 offices and 370 employees dedicated to supporting companies of all sizes. This trusted and transparent relationship provides Caliche with solid backing for expansion projects.
Martínez emphasizes that technology and artificial intelligence are transforming the group’s operations. Caliche has invested in AI through its new division, Biyectiva, to integrate this technology across all business areas. He believes AI will become as essential to companies as computing was in the early days. In addition, the group remains committed to internationalization, ready to adapt to client needs and to expand services to new destinations as required.
Recognition of a successful career
This year Caliche Group earned the top prize in the Business Excellence Awards, an accolade presented by Banco Sabadell and Prensa Ibérica Group, recognizing dynamism and innovation among the Murcian business community.
Fernando Canós concluded the discussion by thanking David Martínez and affirming that Banco Sabadell will continue to accompany companies in the region and support the business community, described by Canós as one of the most dynamic and united in Spain.
