Two individuals were arrested by Alicante Local Police on Tuesday morning just moments after a theft that targeted a shipment of olive and sunflower oil. Police sources report that the value of the stolen goods is around 900 euros, and authorities subsequently seized all of the contraband involved in the incident.
Beyond the oils found in the suspects’ vehicle, investigators recovered nine packages of textiles from another company, along with additional items believed to be stolen.
Described as a high-value theft, the incident occurred near Oscar Esplá street in the morning hours. A delivery worker had begun unloading a pallet when three men arrived in a rented van and stole 17 boxes that included five-liter oil drums and one-liter bottles of the same product. This description aligns with the regime for transportable goods where quick, opportunistic grabs can occur during routine deliveries.
Initial police observations indicate the robbery happened rapidly and could not be prevented; as the thieves departed, one suspect attempted to flee on foot.
Theft Alert
The victim promptly reported the theft, and Local Police issued an alert to patrol units to watch for the suspicious van. The warning led to a rapid response and a municipal tow truck operator located the vehicle in the Casa Mediterráneo area. A police officer pursued the van, but the driver continued to drive away until he was eventually caught on a nearby road near Alicante’s Martyrs of Freedom area.
The seized van was surrounded by officers from several Local Police units. The two men were detained, and a thorough interior check revealed the contents: seventeen boxes comprised a total of 180 liters of olive oil and 75 liters of sunflower oil. The operation demonstrated the city’s commitment to responding quickly to reported thefts and to ensuring the responsible parties are held accountable.
