Telecommunications Engineer Arrested for Illicit Surveillance in Elche

A 58-year-old man was arrested in Elche on suspicion of revealing secrets after installing a security camera in the home of his ex-wife, against whom he had a protection order. The arrest followed police work and the victim discovering a covert camera hidden in an air duct, a detail released by the National Police.

The suspect was handed over to the court, which deals with violence against women, and Elche was described as the city he threatened to influence. The victim, protected by a gender-based violence order, immediately reported the discovery to a forensic police agent responsible for sexist violence crimes, whom she had previously contacted as part of her protection plan.

Investigators learned that the camera had been installed by the former partner while the couple were still together. With access to the house keys and the electrical system, he could enter the home without restrictions and monitor the victim remotely, turning surveillance into control.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspect had interacted with the victim’s phone company. Police sources state that, posing as a spouse, he presented false personal details and, after obtaining the router’s credentials, gained remote access to the camera, effectively directing the victim’s movements from afar.

The arrested man, identified as a telecommunications engineer, was taken into custody as investigators searched his premises. Officers confiscated several laptops, hard drives, mobile devices, a tablet, and other electronic equipment. The police indicate these devices may have been used in prior acts and will be analyzed in ongoing investigations, with the material to be studied by experts.
