In Snezhinsk, a taxi driver intervened to protect an elderly passenger from fraudsters who planned to extract a large sum of money. This was reported by 74.ru.
The incident occurred on December 22 when the driver, named Tatiana Shirokova, observed a visibly distressed retiree stepping into her cab carrying two heavy bags.
The elderly man later revealed that the people who contacted him claimed his daughter had caused a serious accident and needed a substantial payment before his daughter could return home. Sensing mischief, the driver quickly recognized signs of a scam and escorted the passenger to a police station to ensure his safety, as she described.
During the wake of these events, the pensioner disclosed that he had been carrying 1.8 million rubles for the fraudulent actors. After this admission, the pensioner filed a statement with law enforcement. Meanwhile, the driver tried to contact the elderly man’s daughter to verify the situation and help arrange a safe return home for the pensioner.
This case follows reports of a Siberian taxi driver who, in a different moment, turned away from a deceitful plot and narrowly avoided becoming a suspect himself. The sequence of events underscores how quick thinking and vigilance by a taxi driver can avert financial harm for seniors and protect them from sophisticated fraud schemes.
