The Civil Guard has procured 150 Axon-branded electrical devices designed to incapacitate targets without causing lethal harm, commonly referred to as taser weapons. Six of these units will be issued to agents serving within Alicante Citizens’ Security, known as Usecic. Following a formal deployment ceremony held last April, the equipment underwent a structured series of evaluations to assess how these tools perform in real-world conditions and to establish clear operating protocols for their use. The objective of these trials was to understand reliability, response time, accuracy, and user ergonomics under various scenarios, from routine encounters to tense standoffs, ensuring the devices integrate smoothly into existing procedures without compromising safety or legal standards.
Once the evaluation phase concluded, the initial cohorts stationed at the first distribution site received dedicated training during May and June. The training covered device handling, safety precautions, trigger discipline, de-escalation techniques, and the legal framework governing the use of force. Trainees practiced maintenance routines, charging cycles, and inspection checklists to maintain weapon readiness. With the conclusion of training, the units began operational use of the new equipment starting last Monday. The rollout is being conducted in a controlled, incremental fashion, with the intention of extending the program to additional units over the coming weeks as experience and feedback from frontline personnel accumulate.
