The Taiwanese military has located the wreckage of a meteorological probe near a key defense facility. Citing the island’s Central News Agency, the report suggests the device could be linked to China.
The agency notes that investigators identified a patrol in proximity to one of the troops stationed in the Matsu archipelago, a cluster of islands just north of the Taiwan Strait, though the precise location of the discovery was not detailed. Within the fragments, investigators recovered the name of a Shanghai-based company and a reference to the model of the instrument, identified as the electronic radiosonde GTS12.
Officials indicate that the military authorities on the islands intend to conduct a thorough examination of the wreckage and to heighten vigilance over the movement of similar probes in the vicinity of military installations.
Earlier reports suggest that during February discussions with Taiwanese officials drew attention to the pattern of balloons crossing air boundaries. Officials noted that Chinese balloons are frequently observed violating airspace borders, a concern that has attracted ongoing scrutiny and diplomatic messaging.
