A resident of a summer village near Sysert uncovered an aircraft munition from the days of the Great Patriotic War on his site, according to the press service of the Sverdlovsk regional department of the Russian Guard on its official Telegram channel.
The agency said that a local resident contacted the duty unit of the regional Russian Guard and reported that on his site in the Zapovednik summer settlement a suspicious object, resembling World War II ammunition, had been found. The discovery occurred during earthworks underway on the property.
A response team from the engineering and technical department of the regional OMON unit promptly arrived at the site. Explosives experts confirmed that the object was a 1941 aviation training bomb. It was noted that the munition did not pose an immediate danger to nearby people or infrastructure.
The aerial bomb was subsequently handed over to the investigative-operational group for further processing. The investigation into the circumstances and causes of the find is ongoing, with authorities collecting testimonies and examining the site to determine how the device came to be buried on private land.
An older article mentions a German aerial bomb SD-50 that was discovered in a forest in the Pskov region after World War II, illustrating the long tail of WWII-era ordnance that can resurface years later under various circumstances. This recent incident in Sverdlovsk region underscores the importance of reporting any suspicious finds promptly to local authorities and the police for safe handling and disposal.
