This benefit remains available to individuals who, after reaching that age, no longer qualify for unemployment payments, supplementary unemployment benefits, or extraordinary unemployment benefits.

Additionally, this subsidy can be collected indefinitely until retirement age, at which point the pension begins. From that moment, retirement benefits are received.

Requirements to receive the subsidy for persons over 52

According to the Public State Employment Service’s SEPE website, those who want to access this aid must meet the following criteria:

  1. be in an unemployment situation.

  2. be 52 years old or older on the date when the subsidy conditions are met.

  3. to be registered as a job seeker for one month after the end of the unemployment benefit being received. Registration must be maintained for as long as the subsidy is received.

  4. to meet the activity commitment included in the grant application.

  5. the lack of any income greater than 75 percent of the minimum interprofessional salary in the monthly calculation. If this requirement is not met at the time the causal event occurs, the subsidy becomes accessible if it is met and verified within one year from that date.

  6. to confirm that all requirements are fulfilled except age for access to any type of contributed pension, meaning having paid pension premiums for 15 years, two of which are within the last 15 years. Additionally, one must have paid unemployment benefits for at least 6 years during their working life.

Increase in support for citizens over the age of 52

The monthly subsidy amount for people over 52 years old is currently set at 80 percent of the IPREM, the Indicator of Public Revenue. In 2022 this figure was 463.21 euros per month.

There is good news about a rise in 2023, bringing the monthly amount to 480 euros, which represents an increase of 16.79 euros per month for beneficiaries.

SEPE notes that the aid is disbursed in monthly installments, typically between the 10th and 15th of the month following the accrued period.
