Structure and spread of a major apartment fire in Palma

An alarmingly intense fire broke out on the third floor of a thirteen-story building on Avinguda de Méxic in Palma de Mallorca. Dense smoke quickly filled several homes, trapping neighbors inside. A 23-year-old man endured more than half an hour crouched at a window ledge with his two-year-old child in his arms. On the street, two residents held a small blanket as a safety net, urging him to hang on until help arrived. Firefighters struggled to reach him with a ladder, and access from the exterior proved impossible until the interior could be vented and the blaze contained. When the smoke clearance allowed safer movement, the man and child were rescued. Medical teams treated around twenty residents for smoke inhalation, with some seniors among them, though none appeared severely injured.
