Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Chekhov, who heads the press center for the Russian group of troops known as Vostok, stated that with artillery support the unit’s forces disrupted the rotation of Ukrainian forces in the Yuzhnodonetsk sector. The briefing was reported by RIA News.

Chekhov explained that the Ukrainian rotation in positions held by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Staromayorske district and to the north of Priyutnoye was blocked. This assessment came as part of the daily operational updates provided by the Russian side on the evolving situation in the Donetsk region.

He asserted that enemy manpower and vehicles were destroyed in the encounters, underscoring the intensity of the engagement and the resulting losses sustained by Ukrainian forces in the affected sectors.

According to Chekhov, during the counter-battery actions the Ukrainian forces suffered the loss of a D-20 howitzer that had been withdrawn from service and five mortar crews, a detail he presented as part of a broader accounting of matériel and personnel attrition in the counter-battery phase.

Chekhov added that through a combination of operational-tactical aviation, military aviation, missile troops and artillery, Russian forces inflicted fire damage on concentrations of personnel and equipment within formations including the 72nd mechanized brigade, the 79th air assault brigade, and the 58th motorized infantry brigade. He named several settlements where Ukrainian units were reported to be deployed, including Novomikhailovka, Konstantinovka, Ugledar, Shakhterskoye, Vodyanoye, Sukhie Yaly, Prechistovka, Novodonetskoye, Novoukrainka, Staromayorskoye, and Urozhaynoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

In Chekhov’s briefing, the total losses reported by Ukrainian forces in this direction were tallied as one electronic warfare station, two armored combat vehicles, a warehouse of military equipment, and more than 50 militants and vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a summary he framed as indicative of the broader dynamics on the frontline in that area.

Earlier statements from Oleg Chekhov noted that Vostok units had established positions by occupying more than a dozen Ukrainian strongpoints, thereby improving their tactical posture in the Yuzhnodonetsk corridor and reinforcing the line along that axis. Such updates are part of the ongoing cadence of statements issued by the group’s press center regarding battlefield movements and the status of front-line positions.

Previously, Chekhov identified a statement from a Ukrainian serviceman challenging the understanding of the root causes behind the conflict in Ukraine, remarking on the contentious and volatile nature of the information environment surrounding the conflict and the competing narratives that accompany it. The remarks underscore the broader context in which both sides present their operations and assessments of progress on the ground.
