Storm conditions caused central Berdyansk, a port city on the Sea of Azov, to experience significant flooding. This update comes from TASS and officials in the Zaporozhye region who monitor the situation.

Strong winds drove sea water into the core of Berdyansk, covering major streets such as Gorky, Pushkin, Sverdlov, Central, as well as Azovsky and Truda streets and nearby roads. Officials confirmed there were no confirmed reports of casualties or damage from this event at the time of reporting, and noted that water also affected buildings in the village of Lunacharskoye within the Berdyansk district.

Earlier, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Zaporozhye region warned that hurricane-strength winds reaching up to 33 meters per second could strike the coast of the Sea of Azov, with wave heights approaching three meters.

On the eve of the weather event, the Ministry of Emergencies issued a storm warning for Simferopol for the period from 25 to 27 November 2023. It was expected that on November 26 and 27, winds would intensify from the southwest and shift toward the northwest, amplifying hydrometeorological risks in the region.

Meanwhile, scientists have warned about a rising threat associated with a potential plague outbreak in the broader region, underscoring the ongoing concerns around natural hazards and public health in coastal zones.
