A resident of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is suspected of stealing a pink children’s bag and attempting to sell the phone found inside it. The information comes from the press office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sakhalin Region.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on November 2, 2022. After returning home from a routine shopping trip, a city resident noticed a forgotten pink children’s handbag left on a bench near a football field. The person who took the bag claims to have acted with selfish motives, and the situation unfolded without the awareness of nearby passersby.

Witnesses say that the woman, when she thought no one was watching, seized the bag and stepped away with it. She placed the bag into her own belongings and departed from the area, attempting to avoid drawing attention to the theft. Her actions set in motion a chain of events that culminated in the discovery of an item she did not own in the bag at her home.

Upon returning to her residence, the accused discovered a mobile phone inside the stolen bag. In an effort to obscure the theft, she removed the SIM card from the device. This initial attempt to evade detection allowed her to continue with the plan to dispose of the stolen property at her discretion. The crime resulted in the theft of goods valued at 21 thousand rubles, according to the authorities.

Law enforcement authorities completed the investigation into the criminal case involving a resident of the regional center who was accused of theft causing significant damage. The case was then forwarded to the court for consideration. Prosecutors and investigators emphasized that the maximum penalty for this offense, when committed by a woman, can reach up to five years of imprisonment, and additional penalties may include fines, corrective labor, or other legal measures as determined by the court.

In a related note, reports have surfaced about another incident in which a woman in a cafe in Yekaterinburg allegedly stole a child’s bag and refused to return it in exchange for a prize. This separate case underscores ongoing concerns about theft involving personal belongings in public settings and the importance of timely reporting to authorities to support lawful resolution.
