A resident of Srednekolymsk received an 18-year prison sentence for crimes involving sexual violence against an underage girl. This information comes from the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The sequence began on May 21 when a 42-year-old local man from Srednekolymsk allegedly invited a nine-year-old girl into his home. Reports indicate he held a position as deputy chief physician at the Srednekolymsk regional hospital and used the pretext of an examination to bring the child to his residence, where he then subjected her to sexual misconduct. The events drew attention after passersby observed the man escorting the girl toward her residence and promptly alerted law enforcement. The child was evaluated by psychologists, and the man was placed under custody.
Investigators highlighted that the suspect had a prior conviction for a similar offense and should have been under administrative detention until 2027.
In court, the physician was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum security colony. The court also barred him from any work involving contact with children for 15 years and ordered compulsory psychiatric treatment for the offender.
Earlier reports indicated a separate case involving a citizen of Uzbekistan who was suspected of raping a seven year old child in St. Petersburg. The case remains under investigation and public reporting continues to evolve as authorities review similar incidents to strengthen protection for minors.
