The director of Russia’s National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, part of the Ministry of Health, reported that more than 290 thousand updated Sputnik Light vaccines have been distributed across the country. The center’s spokeswoman confirmed that the supply embodies nearly 295 thousand vials to meet regional needs. The information was summarized in a national news dispatch.

In a formal briefing, the center asserted that all requested doses were delivered, totaling 294,750 bottles to various regional health authorities. The update reflects ongoing efforts to ensure vaccine availability at local facilities and aligns with national health priorities.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Russia extended the temporary protocol designed to organize the work of medical institutions in order to prevent and lower the risk of COVID-19 spread, with the extended period running through January 1, 2025. The decision entered into force on December 31, 2023.

In December, officials indicated that the ministry had approved an update to the Sputnik Light vaccine composition to address coronavirus variants and improve immunogenic performance.

In November, official communications stated that clinical studies of the updated Sputnik Light had reached completion and that the vaccine’s effectiveness approached the high end of the anticipated range, demonstrating strong protection metrics in early assessments.

Medical professionals have also addressed public concerns about health risks associated with COVID-19 and asthma in children, clarifying that there is no established direct causal link between asthma and severe COVID-19 outcomes in younger patients. This reassurance was part of ongoing public health messaging to reduce fear and encourage appropriate vaccination decisions.
