The Council of Ministers is preparing to approve on Tuesday the new Youth Rental Bonus, a 200 million euro program announced by Isabel Rodríguez, the minister in charge of Housing and Urban Agenda, and later confirmed by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
The aim is for the 200 million euros to be disbursed by the autonomous communities, with Rodríguez urging greater speed and better management of these funds.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda unanimously ratified, together with the autonomous communities, the distribution of the 200 million euros for the new Youth Rental Bonus at the Sectoral Conference on Housing.
This subsidy to young people provides 250 euros a month for two years, with the government aiming for the program to start in November.
The amount for this new call remains 200 million euros, the same as in 2022 and 2023, due to the lack of a budget. Therefore, the distribution among regions remains the same as in the last two calls.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez warned that if the housing problem is not addressed decisively, society could end up split into two classes: wealthy owners and poor tenants. He said, “And I do not want a Spain where there are wealthy owners and poor tenants.”
Sánchez noted that his government will implement a regulation to prevent fraud in tourist and seasonal housing contracts and urged all administrations with housing powers to shoulder the workload.
In this sense, he called for the application of the Housing Law, believing that it offers practical tools for municipalities and autonomous communities to lower rents.
