The Spanish government conveyed on Wednesday its rejection of the European Commission’s proposal asking all EU member states to voluntarily cut gas consumption by 15 percent through the coming spring to brace for a possible disruption in Russian supplies.

Regardless of what unfolds, Spanish households should not face gas or electricity shortages at home, she emphasized, adding that Spain would also stand firm in defending its industrial base.
