Spain has been experiencing unusually warm and variable weather through November, with the most persistent rainfall confined to Galicia where rivers swell and monitoring is intensified to manage the higher flows. Across the rest of the peninsula, an anticyclonic pattern remains dominant, making Galicia stand out as an exception in an otherwise stable regime. Meteorologist José Antonio Maldonado, writing for the Meteored portal, cautions that this trend is likely to shift soon and promises a more significant change in the near future.

“A cold air mass is expected to arrive shortly, bringing a drop in temperatures,” Maldonado notes. The timing remains a question, but forecasts suggest limited shifts this Friday and Saturday, with Sunday offering largely clear or near-clear skies for most of the peninsula, except in Galicia and Asturias. The weather pattern is expected to pivot starting Monday.

Cold weather is coming from Monday

“A pronounced shift in weather conditions will take hold on Monday, with temperatures falling almost everywhere. The southern half of the Mediterranean region, including Andalusia and the Canary Islands, may see different dynamics, maintaining relatively milder conditions while other areas cool markedly. It is possible to see daytime highs around 29 °C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 27 °C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and around 13 °C in Maldonado, 12 °C in Vitoria, and 11 °C in Palencia and Burgos, illustrating the wide contrast in impact across the country,” Maldonado observes.

Precipitation is also anticipated, primarily in the northern third of Spain, and in the higher mountain ranges this precipitation may take the form of snow, adding a wintry element to the upcoming days.

As Tuesday arrives, the nation will officially enter winter weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to fall across virtually the entire country, with the Canary Islands standing apart due to their subtropical influences. The forecast emphasizes that frost and possible freezing conditions will extend beyond the mountains to some of the plains and elevated basins, marking a clear transition from autumn warmth to true winter air.
