When Lightyear lands in theaters on June 17, a fresh chapter unfolds that expands Buzz Lightyear’s universe. A new spin-off titled Space Guardian traces the origins behind the iconic hero and frames Buzz as the centerpiece of a dedicated constellation. This silhouette is formed by 104 real stars, alongside well known celestial names such as Big Bear, Little Bear, Draco, and Camelopardalis, creating a stellar tribute to the beloved character.
Promotional material pushes the idea that every great story and heroic figure has a place among the stars. Disney released a video to introduce this new constellation, a project conceived by a team of seasoned astronomers and designers. The result is now integrated into the broader map of 89 constellations that define modern astronomy, featuring stars ranging from moderate to bright magnitudes to capture the eye and imagination of viewers around the world.
To deepen the experience, an Instagram filter appears on the Disney Spain account. Fans who try the filter can choose a name for their own star and save it into the Lightyear constellation, making the connection between the movie and the night sky feel personal and lasting.
Lightyear is presented as the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy. The narrative follows what happens after he is drawn into a mission beyond Earth, far across space. The setting places Buzz against a hostile environment on a distant world, with a seasoned commander and a crew that includes a clever robot cat named Sox. The adventure unfolds as Buzz searches for a path back home through space and time, supported by the determination of his team. Nevertheless, the mission faces a formidable challenge from Zurg, an imposing antagonist with a mysterious agenda that adds tension and risk to every maneuver the crew undertakes, threatening their plans and their hope of returning home.
The film’s voice ensemble showcases Chris Evans as the confident Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, alongside a host of established actors taking on key roles. The cast includes Uzo Aduba as a commander and friend, with performers such as Alisha Hawthorne, Peter Sohn, and others providing distinctive voices for Izzy Hawthorne, Mo Morrison, and Darby Steel. The cast also features notable performances from Mary McDonald-Lewis, who voices the ship’s computer IVAN, and James Brolin, who lends his talent to the character of Zurg. Additional voices cover characters like Junior Zap Patrol and other supporting figures, further enriching the film’s audio landscape. In this expansive lineup, Efren Ramirez voices Airman Diaz, and Keira Hairston appears as Young Izzy, contributing to the film’s youthful energy and dynamic character development.
