A report describes a legal and safety incident involving a foreign national seeking asylum in Russia
A South Korean citizen seeking asylum in the Russian Federation was alleged to have assaulted an official from the Government of Yakutia during a period connected to the NVO region in Ukraine. The allegation surfaced through a social media channel, which claimed the event occurred in the summer region of Izmailovo.
The claimant, identified as a 26-year-old Korean man named Kwon, reportedly contacted Moscow police. He stated that he had fled his home country due to violations of his rights by the government. On January 9, the individual was staying at a hotel in Izmailovo, where another public official, named Savva Mikhailov, who held a deputy position in a state committee in the Sakha Republic, was also mentioned in the narrative.
According to Kwon, entry to the hotel was denied because he had not exchanged currency from dollars to rubles before arrival. An unidentified man in the hotel lobby, who later appeared to be a member of the regional parliament, allegedly offered Kwon shelter in his room. The refugee recounted to investigators that the official assaulted him during the night.
Subsequently, the official issued statements through a private messaging channel, claiming that his actions were meant to assist Koreans. He described Kwon as an adventurer who imagines himself as a Korean equivalent of a whistleblower and indicated a legal challenge for what he termed serious defamation.
Earlier reports mentioned another unrelated incident in a different city where a woman alleged abuse involving her adopted son against two of his sisters. These events were reported in passing without further corroboration at that time.
