In the Altai Republic, a female snow leopard and her cubs were reported to have attacked a herd of domestic sheep and goats, resulting in the death of 27 animals. This incident was highlighted by a TV channel known as 360, which cited a local source for the information.

According to the same report, in the Kosh-Agachsky district, a female snow leopard accompanied by her kittens targeted a daytime grazing flock of sheep. The outcome was grim: 27 sheep were killed within a single day. The report described the event as unfolding in a mountainous region at an elevation close to three thousand meters above sea level, near the border shared by Russia and Mongolia.

Telegram channel Mash Siberia conveyed that experts from Sailyugemsky National Park viewed the incident as a positive sign. The experts suggested that the mother snow leopard was teaching her cubs to hunt, a development they interpret as a natural part of the big cat’s life cycle and a potential indicator of the species adapting and thriving in the region. The report also mentioned that researchers were acknowledged for their work, with the snow leopard population in the area noted to be on the rise. In addition, the Altai Irbis Center was said to have paid compensation to the affected animal owners, totaling 135,000 rubles.

In a separate note, there was mention of a prior operation by regional Emergency Ministry personnel. They reported successfully rescuing a goat from a well more than ten meters deep in the village of Krugloye, Azov district, Rostov region. This reminder of successful rescue work underscores ongoing efforts to assist rural communities facing animal-related challenges, whether from wildlife or incidental hazards.
