In Smolensk, a 38-year-old local resident stabbed a 53-year-old acquaintance and wounded a man who tried to intervene on his behalf. The regional press service of the investigative committee reported the incident.

The event unfolded on February 19 inside a hostel apartment on Soboleev Street. According to investigators, alcohol was present during the gathering. An argument between the two women escalated into violence, with the younger woman stabbing the older woman twice in the chest area.

At one point, the apartment owner entered the room in an attempt to separate the aggressor from the victim. In the course of that intervention, the assailant injured him in the neck area.

Emergency services were alerted by the male witness, who managed to contact police and request medical help. Authorities reported that the life of the restrained victim was not in immediate danger following medical assessment. However, another person at the scene died as a result of the injuries sustained during the incident, according to the ministry’s press service.

The alleged attacker was arrested on the spot. Law enforcement officials said that a decision on the measure to restrain him will be made in the near future as part of the ongoing proceedings.

Authorities disclosed that the suspect had previously appeared before a court in Bashkortostan. He is described as a local resident with a prior criminal history, including a reported assault, confinement, and arson incidents related to associates, which investigators are reviewing in connection with this case.

As the investigation continues, authorities are compiling statements from witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to establish a precise sequence of events. Local residents are urged to await official updates from the regional investigative committee as more details become available and the case moves through the appropriate legal channels.

Officials stressed the importance of responsible behavior in social gatherings and alcohol consumption, noting that such situations can quickly escalate if emotions run high. The public is reminded to contact authorities if they observe any signs of danger or potential crime, and to cooperate with ongoing inquiries to ensure a thorough and fair resolution for those involved.
