Leading figures at Russia’s Hydrometeorological Center have outlined a pronounced warm-up across the central regions in the coming days. The forecast indicates that temperatures in central Russia could climb to the 21-28°C range on Thursday, May 18, before easing to the 17-22°C band over the weekend. This update is reported by DEA News as authorities prepare residents for notable shifts in daily weather patterns.

On May 17, the Central Federal District is expected to experience daytime highs between 20 and 27°C, with cooler overnight conditions around 4-11°C. By the afternoon of May 18, warmth should intensify to a comfortable 21-28°C, bringing brighter skies and extended sunshine. Forecasters emphasize that such readings will surpass the long-term climate norm by roughly 2-3°C, signaling a temporary departure from the typical seasonal baseline and a period of noticeably warmer conditions for the region.

Meteorologists caution that this early heat will be followed by a modest cooldown on May 19, when temperatures are projected to fall by about 4-6°C. Residents may encounter brief showers in many parts of Central Russia, with a higher likelihood of thunderstorms in select areas. The shifting pattern suggests a day-to-day variability that could influence outdoor activities and daily planning across the central zones.

The Hydrometeorological Center’s senior forecast specialist, Marina Makarova, notes that the warmth will not be uniform. While some districts will enjoy high temperatures in the mid to upper 20s, others could see milder conditions closer to the lower end of the spectrum. The emergence of this pronounced warm interval stems from a transient air mass and a sustained high-pressure system settling over portions of the region, promoting clear skies and efficient daytime heating during peak afternoon hours.

In a broader regional context, Roman Vilfand, who previously served as the scientific director of Russia’s Hydrometeorological Center, highlighted that several areas including Arkhangelsk, Komi, Kamchatka, Yakutia, as well as the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs, are expected to experience especially warm conditions in the coming days. Values in these far-flung locales could reach the upper end of the warm-temperature range, signaling a diverse weather mosaic across the federation as new air masses interact with local terrain and atmospheric dynamics.

Officials emphasize that the forecasted escalation in heat across different regions reflects a broader pattern of high-temperature potential in the near term. While central and northern zones may see elevated readings, coastal and Arctic-adjacent areas could follow a different trajectory, underscoring the importance of staying updated with daily forecasts. Weather teams continue to monitor evolving atmospheric conditions for any shifts that could alter wind patterns, precipitation chances, or the severity of convective activity across the country.
