A severe spell of heavy rain and flooding has affected parts of South Korea in recent days, triggering emergency responses across the country. Authorities report that the downpours have disrupted essential services, damaged infrastructure, and forced thousands to leave their homes. As of this morning, the situation remains tense with a continuing need to monitor rainfall levels and potential further weather-related risks. Local security and disaster response teams are coordinating efforts to assist affected residents and manage the response across multiple provinces, according to national reports from Yonhap News Agency.

The fatalities include two people who were inside a building that collapsed during a landslide in Nonsan, located about 150 kilometers south of Seoul. There is concern that two of the three missing individuals may have been swept away by another landslide in Bonghwa, roughly 170 kilometers southeast of the capital. Rescue teams are intensifying search and recovery operations in the affected hillside communities as weather conditions allow.

Evacuation orders and alerts have been issued for several areas. In Goesan county and the city of Chungju, situated in the central region, approximately 8,000 residents have been evacuated. A nearby dam began to overflow, prompting additional proactive evacuations as a precautionary measure. Across the country, about 700 more people were moved to safe locations, and nearly a hundred roadways were temporarily closed to traffic to prevent harm from ongoing rainfall.

Power outages affected multiple towns and cities, as the storm system disrupted utilities. Rail services, including some high-speed lines in the central area, were suspended while crews assess damage and restore service where possible. Heavy rain advisories and flood warnings remained in effect in several zones, underscoring the ongoing risk and the need for vigilance among residents, travelers, and responders during this adverse weather event.
