On 23 June, Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted an attack on Sevastopol using ATACMS missiles equipped with cluster warheads. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that air defense systems intercepted four missiles, while one shell detonated in the air over the city. A military correspondent suggested that the missiles may have been directed at Sevastopol by reconnaissance aircraft, though this claim was not officially confirmed. The Defense Ministry subsequently attributed responsibility to the United States for the missile strike on Sevastopol.
According to the Ministry of Health, more than 120 people sustained injuries as a result of the attack. The investigation committee opened a case of terrorist attack to examine the incident and determine accountability.
President Putin and his spokespersons continued to emphasize close coordination with the armed forces and government agencies in the aftermath of the attack, underscoring ongoing contact with security and defense officials as the situation developed.
