National Police officers from the Asturias Supreme Headquarters’ Provincial Judicial Police Brigade assumed leadership of the case last August, following the death of a 41-year-old woman. The investigation began after the woman reportedly learned that a friend and her own brother, who lived in a different province, might also be involved in troubling events surrounding her death.
According to a call made to the emergency number 091, a person purportedly reported from the friend’s phone that the friend had taken his own life. The caller claimed the person was at home and had placed the house keys in the mailbox themselves.
The individual did not contact emergency services, health authorities, or the police directly, and left the location before officers arrived. The police team confirmed the scenario on arrival, noting that the keys were indeed in the mailbox. Upon entering the residence, they found the woman deceased.
Following confirmation of the death by the coroner, the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade initially led the inquiry. They proceeded to identify the whistleblower from the deceased’s social circle, including the friend and the deceased’s brother, both of whom were connected to recent events.
Investigators conducted a thorough examination of the scene at the deceased’s home, collecting various items and substances that were disturbed for further analysis and testing.
After completing initial steps, the investigators determined the identity of the person who was with the deceased at the time of death and located that individual at an address in a city near Barcelona.
The investigative team requested the cooperation of the Catalonia Headquarters to pursue the arrest of the identified person and to obtain the necessary judicial authorization for entry and search at the residence.
Following the arrest by officers from the Barcelona Judicial Police Brigade, a locally made hunting gun and several cartridges were found. The detainee was released from immediate custody, while ongoing probes consider charges including suicide or assisted suicide, neglect of a dependent, and possession of an illegal firearm.
