The Brazilian government is escalating security efforts nationwide in response to calls from radical Bolsonarista groups for new demonstrations this coming Wednesday, following protests that culminated in attacks on the headquarters of the three branches of government over the past weekend. Officials say the country will see intensified protective measures as leaders prepare for gatherings that could pose significant public safety challenges.

Officials confirmed that authorities have requested prompt action from the Supreme Court after the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office urged high court intervention to avert potential acts of terrorism, violence, and vandalism. The move signals a broader stance aimed at safeguarding essential public spaces and maintaining order during politically charged events.

In announcing the plan, the Presidential Office stressed that higher security presence would be deployed nationwide due to the high level of mobilization calls circulating in public messages. The Esplanade of Ministries, along with other major urban centers, is being treated as a priority area for precautionary measures to ensure the safety of governmental buildings and the surrounding city spaces.

Authorities noted that the social networks previously used by Bolsonarista groups to organize rallies have been identified as a key channel for coordinating the next demonstrations. The warning cites a scheduled broadcast for Wednesday at 18:00 local time (21:00 GMT), with events anticipated in major cities such as Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte. The public announcements emphasize demonstrations framed as a moment of political reclamation.

Radical factions that dispute the outcome of the October presidential election and advocate a coup d état have already targeted the Presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court during Sunday’s clashes. Roughly 1,500 individuals linked to former President Jair Bolsonaro were detained after authorities evacuated the targeted sites amid the disorder and damage that followed the incidents.

In formal filings to the Court of Cassation, the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor urged urgent measures describing the nationwide demonstrations as a potential threat to the democratic rule of law. The petition asks the Supreme Federal Court to instruct federal and state security forces to take necessary emergency steps to prevent blockages of roadways and to avert the occupation of key transportation routes and public arteries.

Lawyers advocating for public safety emphasized the need to protect the right to peaceful assembly while preventing unlawful activities that could endanger democracy. They argued for temporary, clearly defined restrictions on demonstrations and urged penalties for individuals and groups that provide illicit logistical or financial support to protests.

The agency also requested that the Supreme Court authorize the immediate arrest of anyone who disobeys court orders and enable authorities to block social network accounts used to organize and promote demonstrations. The overall objective remains to maintain public order, safeguard critical infrastructure, and ensure that lawful demonstrations occur without disruption to daily life or the safety of citizens.
