“Security Guard Helps Stop Shooting on Rubinshtein Street”

A security guard at the Tolstoy House in St. Petersburg reported to Gazeta.ru that he personally stopped a man who opened fire on Rubinshtein Street the day before. He said his aim was to calm the shooter, but the assailant began firing in his direction.

According to the guard, he was monitoring the scene from the building’s security cameras when he spotted gunfire. He rushed toward the suspect, while a coworker who operates as a janitor contacted him to confirm safety. The guard described pursuing the attacker as he attempted to rupture a car window and aim at bystanders. He believes the man appeared to be under the influence or overwhelmed by something. After catching up, the guard attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the man cursed at him and fired several rounds. The guard managed to dodge the shots by turning left and continued pursuing the suspect on nearby streets. The attacker struck an elderly person and fired toward a group heading toward a local business, before the guard tackled him on Shcherbakov Street. A passing witness provided a tape the guard used to restrain the suspect. Emergency responders and law enforcement soon arrived, and the guard handed over the detainee to the National Guard, police, and OMON units for further handling (Gazeta.ru).

That evening, a drunken resident of St. Petersburg used a traumatic weapon to shoot on Rubinstein Street. The incident left three people injured, two of whom required hospital care, while the third received treatment at home after assistance. The Main Directorate of the Russian Guards confirmed that the shooter was detained by operational services. A traumatic pistol and pepper spray were recovered from the suspect, and a criminal case involving hooliganism was opened as a result of the incident (Gazeta.ru).
