The second assailant who carried out the suicide bombing near the police building in Ankara has been identified, according to official channels cited by TASS on behalf of the Turkish authorities. The confirmation came through a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which announced that DNA testing had established the identity of the second bomber as Özkan Şahin.
Officials noted that Şahin was affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an organization designated as a terrorist group within the country. Earlier, authorities had identified Hasan Oğuz as another participant in the same attack, also linked to the PKK. The ministry emphasized that the investigation and counter-terrorism efforts across the nation would continue to pursue all involved and address the threat posed by such acts.
The incident occurred on October 1 when two assailants arrived at the entrance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs building in Ankara and attempted to trigger explosives at a security checkpoint. The second attacker was neutralized in the ensuing confrontation, and two police officers sustained minor injuries during the clash.
In the wake of the attack, the Ministry of National Defense reported that Turkish forces conducted an air operation against PKK targets located in Northern Iraq. The government has previously launched nationwide anti-terror measures aimed at curbing ongoing violence and dismantling terrorist infrastructure across affected regions.
Authorities continue to collect evidence, review security protocols, and coordinate with regional and international partners to prevent similar incidents. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities as the investigation advances and the search for other potential threats continues.
