Reports indicate that the individual left home after writing an undisclosed note and taking no documents along. By the evening of May 22, authorities located a body along the Khoper River near the village of Pinerovka, where the deceased resided.
Official statements describe Vitaly Picchugin as a mathematics and informatics teacher at a rural school. The individual held several honors, including the title of Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation and the award Excellence in Public Education. Recognitions also included the Order For Merit to the Fatherland, II degree, and a diploma from the Ministry of Education.
