The Security Service of Ukraine says an official at the Ukrainian embassy in a Central Asian nation is under investigation for allegedly organizing an illicit network that moved migrants toward European Union destinations via Ukraine. The disclosure was made through the ministry’s Telegram channel.
Officials indicate the group consisted of individuals classified as coming from countries with a high risk of terrorism.
According to the SBU, the accused organizer offered citizens from multiple Asian states a route to illegally reach the European Union by passing through Ukraine. The woman at the center of the case arranged visas for people who would enter Ukraine as students at local universities. She reportedly charged about $3,000 for her services.
Two associates are said to have aided the secretary by contacting clients, negotiating terms of passage, and channeling payments to the organizer. In total, as many as 900 individuals from high-risk countries benefited from the illicit services.
A criminal case has been opened against the embassy employee under the charge of illegal transportation of persons across state borders. If convicted, the individual could face a lengthy prison term.
Earlier reports indicated that over 100,000 people attempted to reach the United Kingdom by boat within a five-year span, highlighting broader concerns about unauthorized crossings and migration routes. Source attribution: SBU communications
