A man was jailed after a shooting in Sax that wounded a man outside a gaming hall last month. The Guardia Civil detained a 54-year-old local resident, who is charged with attempted homicide after shooting the victim following a heated dispute and striking him with a blunt object, according to reports. The examining court in Villena ordered his detention in prison, as announced by the Guardia Civil on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on a Tuesday night when, at around 21:50, the Guardia Civil received a report of a brawl between two individuals in Sax. A gunshot was reportedly fired, and patrol units from the Guardia Civil and the Local Police rushed to the scene. They discovered only one injured person, a 35-year-old resident of Sax, who was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Elda with a stab-like abdominal wound. Given the severity, the Judicial Police Team of the Guardia Civil in Novelda was activated to lead the investigation.
When investigators arrived, they spoke with the officers on site and gathered information. Initial findings indicated the perpetrator struck the victim with a wooden club and later shot him in the abdomen, with a projectile later recovered at the scene.
Following a thorough analysis of the evidence and surveillance footage, authorities identified the suspect as a 54-year-old man from Sax and located the vehicle believed to be involved, along with the club used in the assault. The case then progressed with a coordinated effort involving the Sax, Villena, and Sax Local Police Units, which helped pinpoint the alleged offender’s location and led to his detainment in a public area a few hours after the incident.
On January 27, the detainee, accused of attempted homicide, was presented before the Valencian jurisdiction’s 2nd Investigating Court in Villena, which ordered preventive detention.
