Over the weekend, authorities conducted broad searches in the Cabo Peñas area to locate Sandra Bermejo García, a 32-year-old psychologist living in Gijón but originally from Madrid. The effort aimed to gather any information or clues that could clarify her disappearance. The National Police spokesperson, Dámaso Colunga, stated on Monday that the search had been completed in the marine zone, and that the operation involving a coastal team was finalized. He emphasized that the investigation remains open and that all leading hypotheses continue to be considered, with voluntary disappearance identified as the primary line of inquiry from the outset. Investigators also met with Sandra Bermejo’s family, who reside in Madrid but have ties to Gijón, during the previous afternoon to share updates and maintain transparency.

“Yesterday, Sunday, a wide sweep was carried out by several municipalities, but the results were negative,” Colunga explained. “This Tuesday afternoon, investigators will meet with the family again to brief them on any new information. The investigation is ongoing, and the focus remains on the areas of Gijón where data has been collected. The paths are open, and no area along the coastline is ruled out.” He added that the main hypothesis considered from day one, based on the gathered evidence, is that Sandra’s disappearance was voluntary.

The search for Sandra Bermejo García began on November 8 after she went missing in the Cabo Peñas area. Bermejo, a Madrid-born psychologist who has been living in Gijón since 2020, has prompted a range of hypotheses, including possible suicide or an accidental fall. There has even been speculation about involvement in an esoteric ritual, but her family has publicly supported the police investigation and expressed confidence in the authorities’ work.

Commissioner Dámaso Colunga reaffirmed that family members have the right to be informed about the investigation’s status. He noted that Sandra’s relatives live in Madrid and that, throughout the search, the coast and nearby areas have been carefully surveyed by the GEO unit, with fieldwork conducted by the judicial police. He promised that any negative results would be communicated as soon as they were verified.

In coordination with the GEO elite unit, the Gijón National Police Station Judicial Police Brigade resumed efforts last week in the area where Sandra was last seen. The operation leveraged better weather and lower water levels to access coastal zones that had previously been difficult to reach. During these efforts, investigators recovered a white shirt matching the size of the garment reported to have been worn by Sandra on the day she disappeared. The item was found on land, near the base of a cliff.

The maritime department reported that the search had been completed, noting that GEO specialists were involved alongside the dive team. The presence of GEOs is a standard part of operations and has occurred on multiple occasions in Gijón and nearby Avilés for various surveillance tasks. The captain who spoke on behalf of the coastal command described the collaboration as routine and essential to the ongoing investigation.

Regarding the shirt found during the searches, Dámaso Alonso explained that the Galicia Police Department laboratory would issue the appropriate report. While he could not provide exact deadlines, he mentioned that the process would proceed as quickly as possible and that DNA testing would be used to determine whether the garment belonged to the missing woman.

An anonymous tip also led police to a leotard tag that could potentially match an item Sandra was wearing on the day of her disappearance. However, the information did not yield a clear link or new evidence to advance the case. The lead was valuable for thoroughness but did not offer a conclusive clue.

Although the searches related to Sandra Bermejo have concluded for the moment, that does not mean the investigation is closed. Officials have indicated that the inquiry will remain active until all reasonable possibilities are exhausted and a clear conclusion is reached. The work continues, guided by the principles of accountability and public transparency, and authorities remain committed to pursuing every viable lead to bring clarity to this disappearance, in coordination with Sandra’s family and the community affected by the event.
