Sanctions in Alicante’s Construction Sector Highlight Safety and Compliance

The Alicante Labor and Social Security Inspectorate recently published sanctions in the Official Journal of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV). In four of these cases, the penalties involve companies linked to the construction sector. Among them, Primer Grupo de Restauración stands out as the entity that received the most substantial sanction. Although headquartered in Murcia, this company is engaged in the construction of residential buildings and operated within the province during July of the previous year, which is the timeframe tied to the cited violation.

Another sanctioned firm is Mevinia Levante, a Novelda-based company focused on private construction activities. It was fined €114,192 for a violation that originally occurred in March 2008 but only has now been clarified and fully addressed by the authorities.

The third sanction results from actions by a draft law regarding the Technical Construction and Leasing company from Alicante. Its business relates to the construction of non-residential buildings, and the penalty amounts to €40,986, with the offense dating to last June. This figure corresponds precisely to what Tombergrup Obras y Servicios, a company located in Alcoy and active in non-residential real estate, would have owed for a violation committed in the summer of 2022.

A fourth company in the list is Gayanes Recycling, based in l’Alqueria d’Asnar, which specializes in wholesale trade of scrap metal and waste products. The sanction tied to this entity dates back to October 2018. Rounding out the list is Konecta Asesores Solares, headquartered in Ballesteros de Calatrava in the Manchego region, a firm involved in electrical installations. The culpable conduct for this case occurred while the company was performing work in Alicante in May 2022, and the penalty stands at €49,181.

The imposition of these sanctions coincided with heightened concerns about occupational safety and the rate of workplace accidents. In the prior year, national statistics recorded 16,000 workplace incidents, including 28 fatalities. Elvira Ródenas, the Director General of Labour, has underscored that the primary objective behind these penalties is to set a clear example, safeguard workers, and reinforce prevention. The measures are intended to compel compliance with established regulations and to reinforce the idea that safety standards must be actively maintained across the construction and related industries.
