The Samara region’s governor, Dmitry Azarov, reported that during a strike on a Russian military deployment point in Makeevka by Ukrainian forces, soldiers hailing from Samara were killed and wounded. His comments were relayed by a local publication, referring to it as Owl.
In addressing the situation, Azarov stated that there are wounded individuals and, regrettably, fatalities as well. He emphasized that he remains in ongoing contact with the Russian Ministry of Defense to monitor developments and coordinate a response.
The governor pledged full support to the families of service members and promised comprehensive care for the wounded, including medical treatment and rehabilitation. He urged a careful and orderly approach while this difficult situation unfolds.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the strike in Makeevka targeted a temporary residence area used by a unit of the Russian Armed Forces within the Donetsk People’s Republic. The ministry reported that six rockets from a HIMARS multiple launch system were involved and noted that air defense systems managed to shoot down two of the missiles. The ministry also confirmed casualties on the Russian side, detailing the loss of 63 soldiers with additional injuries beyond those reported earlier.
Grigory Karasin, who chairs the Federation Council International Relations Committee, called on Russia’s security agencies to identify those responsible for the attack and to pursue accountability through appropriate channels. He underscored the need for a precise response and for keeping channels open with allied partners during this period of heightened tension.
