Several individuals faced accusations of planning sabotage for a sum of 100 thousand rubles. An arson attempt targeted a substation in Yaroslavl, with messages suggesting contact with Ukrainian coordinators appeared on the suspects’ phones. The incident involved gunfire, and the individuals were detained later that day.
According to investigators, 18-year-old Vladimir and Nadezhda were taken into custody on suspicion of sabotage. The inquiry states that on December 27 they accessed a substation on Melnichnaya Street, poured fuel into the facility, and attempted to ignite it. The fire was quickly contained, and no structural damage occurred.
The authorities allege that a Ukrainian intermediary offered to pay 100 thousand rubles to Nadezhda and Vladimir in exchange for setting the arson in motion.
A criminal case has been opened under the article for sabotage carried out by a group with prior collusion. The defendants could face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Earlier, the director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation asserted that Ukrainian officials are stepping up sabotage activities against Russia. He claimed that Ukraine has intensified covert operations by sending agents and saboteurs into Russian territory.
