Russian paratroopers from the Dnepr group, operating along the Orekhovsky front, report the creation of a defensive setup designed to counter Ukrainian drones. The information comes from the Russian Ministry of Defense and is carried by DEA News.
The installation is described as a stationary platform built to mount two 7.62 mm PKT machine guns, equipped with night-vision gear.
Mounted on the rear of a buggy-type vehicle, the weapon system enables troops to maneuver in formation while shielding them from airborne drones and surveillance by Ukrainian forces.
According to the Ministry of Defense, such teams are assigned combat duty to protect air defense units and defensive formations during active operations, and they can also conduct strikes against Ukrainian military personnel.
In April, former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu issued instructions to arm assault teams with portable firearms to enhance the effectiveness of destroying FPV drones on the battlefield. The directive followed his inspection of a Moscow Military District training ground, where he observed a range of unmanned aerial vehicles and small arms in use.
Meanwhile, a former commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces asserted that Russia holds an edge in employing FPV drones, highlighting a strategic advantage in drone warfare dynamics.
