The latest reports from the Russian defense ministry describe ongoing combat activity in the Kupyansk direction, citing losses among Ukrainian forces and claims of neutralizing equipment. Official sources stated that roughly 70 Ukrainian service members were killed in a day, and a warehouse containing ammunition was reportedly destroyed. These assertions came from Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, the ministry’s press spokesman.
In the Kupyansk sector, Konashenkov said that air strikes and artillery fire from units identified as part of the Western Group of Forces targeted Ukrainian positions in the Berestovoe and Masyutovka settlements in the Kharkov region, accompanied by claims of damaging military hardware.
The briefing also claimed that three enemy vehicles and one Grad multiple-launch rocket system combat vehicle were destroyed in the same period within the Kupyansk direction, according to the spokesperson.
Additional claims included the destruction of Ukrainian D-30 and Msta-B howitzers within the special operations zone, as part of the reported activity by Russian forces.
There were references to attempted Ukrainian incursions into Russian territory, with the ministry asserting that a group of around 20 Ukrainian soldiers moved along the right bank of a river toward Novaya Tavolzhanka before dispersing.
Finally, the briefing noted remarks attributed to a Ukrainian battalion commander, Petr Gorbatenko, described as acknowledging the performance of Russian units during the operations. The statements reflect official Russian clarifications of recent engagements in the region, viewed through the ministry’s regular updates on the situation.
