Russian investigators have concluded the investigation into a criminal case involving Serhiy Batynsky, a senior lieutenant and political officer with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, accused of crimes in Mariupol that included murder, rape, and torture of prisoners. The information comes from a law enforcement source cited by TASS.
The source indicates that the final version of the case includes new statements attributed to the Ukrainian serviceman following a confrontation with the victim. He is said to have confessed to his actions in the recorded statements.
According to the same source, the case is expected to be forwarded soon to the supervisory authority for indictment approval, marking a key procedural step in the criminal process.
The investigation notes that in early April 2022 Batynsky, along with fellow soldiers, detained two Ukrainian citizens attempting to evacuate from the city. The detained individuals included a man and a woman who identified themselves as spouses. Allegedly, Batynsky forced the woman to endure rape while intoxicated, and he shot the man who attempted to intervene.
In a separate development, the Russian Investigative Committee announced the completion of the preliminary inquiry into a separate case involving Major Roman Pryimak, the head of the support services of the military unit A-0536 of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This filing details additional actions within the broader investigative activity related to the Ukrainian military forces.
