The Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka has confirmed that a Russian citizen died in an accident on January 5. The confirmation came through TASS, citing German Fedorov, head of the consular department at the embassy in Colombo.
According to Fedorov, around 9:00 PM local time on January 5, a bus carrying a group of Russian tourists collided with a truck. One person died on the scene, and several others received medical care. The embassy stated that family members of the deceased were offered support, and the remaining injured travelers were treated and discharged after initial medical attention.
On January 6, reports indicated a separate incident in St. Petersburg where a conflict between a taxi driver and a passenger led to an accident.
Earlier, on January 4, a fatal road crash occurred in the Kaliningrad region. On the Moscow Ring Road, several cars were involved in a collision on the same day. In another incident in Chuvashia, more than 30 people were affected by a bus accident that involved a fire.
The consular team continues to assist Russian nationals involved in these events and coordinates with local authorities to ensure medical care and welfare support for those impacted.
