Russian operational-tactical aviation and army aviation reported active engagement against Ukrainian forces, claiming strikes on more than 60 areas identified as concentrations of troops from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The information was shared by Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, the official representative of Russia’s Defense Ministry.

Konashenkov noted that a control center and a radar station belonging to the Buk-M1 air defense system were also among targets hit during the operations.

He stated that operational-tactical and army aviation attacked a command post and a radar station of the Buk-M1 air defense missile system in the Lisichansk region of the Luhansk People’s Republic, as well as a gathering point for personnel and equipment from the Ukrainian forces, numbering in the 63-personnel and equipment range. The Defense Ministry assessment highlighted the scope of the strikes against Ukrainian forces.

According to official claims, the airstrikes resulted in the destruction of more than 120 Ukrainian soldiers, along with two tanks and eleven other vehicles, reflecting a substantial impact on ground force capabilities during the operation.

News surrounding the operation followed remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, when he announced a decision to conduct a special military operation in Ukraine. He explained the move as a response to requests for assistance from the heads of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, framing the operation within broader regional developments and security concerns.

These official statements have subsequently influenced international responses, including the imposition of new sanctions by the United States and allied nations in connection with the evolving conflict dynamics.

The reporting stance reflects ongoing official communications from Moscow regarding the nature, targets, and outcomes of military actions in the region, while observers continue to assess the broader implications for civilians and regional stability. (citation: Russian Ministry of Defense)
