The Moscow region court has confirmed the 19-year sentence for a supporter linked to the banned organization operating under the name of the Islamic State. The sentence, issued in a strict-regime penal colony, applies to actions tied to planning a terrorist act and has now entered into force, as reported by the press service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for Moscow and the Moscow region (FSB Moscow/MI).
According to the court decision, Magomedov KM, born in 1982, was involved in arranging a terrorist act using an improvised explosive device on Russian soil. Investigators established that he maintained contacts with ISIS representatives beyond Russia’s borders and underwent remote training focused on constructing handmade explosives. The goal was to execute an attack at a courthouse in the Moscow region, but law enforcement intervened while the device was being prepared in a rented apartment.
During the search, investigators uncovered explosive materials, screw-shaped projectiles, a mobile phone intended to activate the IED, and detailed entry plans to access the courthouse. The man faced charges under Part 1 of Article 205 (Terrorist Act) and Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, or transportation of weapons).
Magomedov, a Dagestani resident, had previously joined the IG movement in Turkey. His case reflects ongoing efforts by Russian authorities to disrupt international terrorist networks and prevent potential attacks on domestic targets. The sentence underscores the seriousness with which the legal system treats attempts to organize or facilitate terrorism, including through online recruitment and remote instruction. The investigation continues to track any remaining connections and supply chains that could enable further extremist activity. (Source: FSB press service, Moscow and Moscow Region)
