Russia stands ready to extend help to Afghanistan to mitigate flood-related damage if Kabul asks for support. This commitment was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, emphasizing that Moscow would provide the necessary assistance to the friendly people of Afghanistan upon a formal request from Kabul.
The diplomat expressed sorrow over the devastating floods hitting Baghlan province in northeastern Afghanistan and conveyed condolences to the Afghan people affected by this natural disaster.
Earlier, on May 11, the United Nations World Food Programme Afghanistan office highlighted that flooding in northern Afghanistan was one of several natural disasters unfolding in recent weeks due to unusually heavy rains.
In a related regional development, authorities in the Omsk region reported ongoing evacuation efforts, with women and children being moved to safety. Regional head Vitaly Khotsenko noted that while the situation remained challenging, it was within the ability of local services to manage and control the response.
These events underscore the international and regional focus on disaster response, humanitarian aid, and the coordination required to protect vulnerable populations amid extreme weather and related emergencies.
