Russia Tests Electronic Subpoenas for Military Draft Information

Authorities in Moscow have announced new steps in the spring draft process for 2023. The city’s military commissariat will begin issuing subpoenas through the Gosuslugi portal, and notifications will also be sent via SMS messages and telephone calls. This change is being tested to inform citizens when they arrive at the military registration and enlistment offices, as part of a broader effort to streamline the conscription workflow. Officials clarified that the overall procedure for military service remains unchanged.

In remarks about the rollout, the head of Moscow’s military commissariat explained that the initiative will start in a test mode. Citizens will be informed through the State Services portal, via SMS alerts, and by phone that they have reached the military commissariat. The aim is to accelerate communication during the intake process while keeping existing protocols intact for steps beyond the intake stage.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation indicated that electronic subpoenas would not be sent to those awaiting conscription and that any existing delays would continue during the current draft cycle. By April 15, authorities reported that 52,000 individuals had been notified, 21,000 had been deemed fit for military service, and 29,000 had been suspended from service for various reasons. The initial dispatch of conscripts to deployment points within the Russian Federation was scheduled to begin on April 20. Additional details were provided in coverage from socialbites.ca.
