The Rostov region’s governor, Vasily Golubev, announced that severe weather has prompted a state of emergency in five municipalities. The declaration was reported through the governor’s official telegraph channel.
Golubev explained that the emergency measures cover the districts of Shakhty, Belokalitvensky, Kamensky, Krasnosulinsky, and Oktyabrsky as the situation unfolds.
What began as a rainy snowfall on the night of March 30 in the Rostov region has intensified into persistent snowfall that continues to affect daily life and travel across the area.
Earlier, traffic on the M-4 Don highway in the Rostov region faced closures and restrictions as authorities worked to clear the snow and mitigate hazards. Russia’s traffic police reported a long traffic jam extending about 50 kilometers as crews responded to the conditions.
Prior to that, RIA Novosti noted that heavy weather prompted limitations on truck traffic along parts of the M-4 Don highway to safeguard motorists and to facilitate snow removal and other emergency operations.
In response to the worsening weather, GUMCHS of the Rostov region urged residents to exercise extra caution while driving and walking outdoors, emphasizing prudent behavior and preparedness during winter weather conditions.
