A senior Rostec official announced an upgraded version of the MGR-4 Shmel sapper robot, designed to support humanitarian mine clearance. The update aims to enhance the robot’s capabilities in real-world field conditions. This information is reported by a major Russian news agency.
The plan is to deploy the digging robot in new geographic regions under operational testing and evaluation. Officials described the MGR-4 Shmel as a high-precision asset intended to improve safety and efficiency during demining tasks in challenging environments.
At the conclusion of the Army-2023 International Military-Technical Forum, Rostec highlighted that the state enterprise High Precision Complexes, part of the instrument design bureau network, would direct the MGR-4 Shmel to additional regions within the country. The announcement emphasized strategic capability growth and expanded applicability of the robotic system in varied terrains.
Earlier reports indicated that Rostec’s holding company KBP, known for its work on precision munitions, had modernized the Krasnopol guided artillery shell, achieving improvements in accuracy and performance parameters. The broader message from Rostec also noted ongoing developments in guided ammunition with very high precision, signaling a push toward precision-strike capabilities across multiple platforms.
In related developments, the company described progress in areas such as autonomous systems and unmanned aerial and ground-based platforms, reflecting a broad modernization effort aimed at expanding operational options for defense and security missions. The emphasis remains on increasing reliability, range, and effectiveness of weapons and support systems through targeted research and iterative upgrades.
These advances illustrate a comprehensive program to advance unmanned and precision-guided technologies, including mine clearance robotics, guided munitions, and drone countermeasures. The overarching objective is to enhance safety for personnel, improve mission success rates, and provide adaptable tools for situational demands across diverse regions and scenarios.
