Power supply in several districts of the North-Eastern Administrative Region has been partially restored after a fire at a substation. The update came from Pyotr Biryukov, Moscow’s deputy mayor for housing, communal services, and improvement, reported by the city news agency Moscow. He confirmed that crews have stabilized portions of the grid and are gradually bringing additional facilities back online.

The incident occurred on the morning of January 4 when a fire broke out at a substation located to the northeast of Moscow. Later assessments placed the event around 6:00 in the Beskudnikovo substation area. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, with one transformer completely burned and the other units sustaining only minor damage now awaiting assessment.

The outages affected several districts, including North and South Medvedkovo, Bibirevo, and Otradnoye. In response to the disruption, heating units serving those neighborhoods were shut down as a precaution while the situation was being contained.

Biryukov stated that the remaining buildings will be connected to the backup heating system as soon as possible. He noted that the city had earmarked around 100 mobile diesel generators to support the operation of the backup heating network during the outage. All relevant services were operating in an enhanced mode to speed up repairs and maintain essential services.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the creation of an operational headquarters dedicated to managing the response and coordinating the efforts to eliminate the consequences of the substation fire. The headquarters is tasked with prioritizing power restoration, ensuring public safety, and communicating timely updates to residents.

Officials indicated that power outages extended to a subset of buildings as a result of the fire. Sobyanin emphasized that emergency teams responded quickly and that their rapid actions limited further damage and helped stabilize the affected area. The focus remains on repairing the damaged infrastructure and restoring normal service levels across the districts involved.

Earlier reports highlighted a separate large fire in Bakovka near Moscow, in Odintsovo, underscoring the broader challenges related to electricity and heat supply in adjacent regions. Local authorities have continued to monitor the situation closely, coordinating with energy providers and emergency services to minimize disruption and support residents during the recovery period.
