A resident of Marín was arrested by the National Police on charges of leaving the country and for alleged theft through the exploitation of two elderly women. The alleged crime involved confiscating the women’s bank accounts and withdrawing their pensions every month, alongside other serious neglect, while the victims endured inhumane living conditions without water or electricity in their home.
According to the Marin Police Station, the investigation began when one of the elderly victims sent a certified letter to authorities describing the severe harm caused by an individual and noting the ongoing mobility problems that pushed the victims toward financial and personal distress. The letter indicated that the alleged offender took advantage of the women, including their monthly pension payments, which were routinely depleted by the suspect.
The police subsequently visited the woman’s residence and confirmed the report. It was observed that both she and her mother lived in severely degrading conditions, with the mother bedridden and entirely dependent on her daughter for daily care and support.
Investigators found that the women lacked electricity and clean water in their home. They relied on candles to illuminate their space and had minimal food supplies to meet basic needs. The sanitary and hygienic conditions within the dwelling were reported as severely inadequate.
During interviews, the victims described the situation as the withdrawal of funds from the region by the person who controlled their bank account, resulting in cash shortages and profound economic fragility. They stated that the full pension amount was repeatedly withdrawn when it was received, leaving them with no means to cover essential expenses thereafter.
The case was brought to the attention of the Adliye, which received a letter carrying the same motive as the initial communication to the Police Station. The authorities requested the victims’ bank statements and verified that, at each pension receipt, the full amount was systematically paid out to the suspect, stripping the women of the financial ability to meet basic needs.
Social Services also became involved, initiating assistance procedures to secure a stable livelihood for the mother and daughter. While police teams located the perpetrator and carried out the arrest, he was handed over to the judicial authorities for further proceedings.
